Counting Apples Activity

We've been doing lots of apple crafts lately so I decided to add some fun apple learning to the mix.

I made up these little cards for my daughter one evening when I was bored!

I cut out tree trunks and tree tops and add a "dot" to each tree top to represent an apple.  Then, on the bottom of the card I wrote a number.

I adhered the tree tops using velcro dots (love those things!)

Then I set them out for Anna and let her match up the number on the bottom of the card with the correct number of apples on the tree top.

Numbers 1-6 were pretty easy for her, but I had to remind her to slow down and put her finger on each "apple" as she was counting.  She tended to go a little too fast....

But it was fun, and she was learning.  That's all that matters!!

Pretend Grocery Store Play

Sweet Girl is very much into pretend play right now.  Most days she is decked out in some elaborate costume of some sort....usually pink or purple, and usually princess.  And sometimes that said princess says she needs to go "shopping"....so we made up a pretend grocery store that was so fun!!

First I gathered up a little box, some coins and pretend dollars.

Then I sat out some of our pretend food.  I grouped like foods together.

I added some labels to the empty boxes to help with number recognition and matching.

Then my little shopper went to the grocery store with her little baby!!

Once she gathered up all her groceries, I helped her "check out".  I made up a pretend amount and we counted out our money.  The little activity turned out to be quite a little learning experience.

ABC Fun - Letter K

We had a lot of fun learning letter J last week!  Sweet Girl's favorite part was "jumping over the J's" and now we do that almost every time we're outside playing with chalk!!

I've planned lots of fun things for letter K this week!

Alphabet Sensory Bin
First up is our letter K sensory bin.  I couldn't find too many letter K objects other than a key and a koala so I printed off some objects/things that begin with the letter K and added them to our bin.  We always use our bin first so we can talk about the letter and it's sound!

Making letter K/k with play-doh
This is from Homeschool Creations.

Counting keys
I drew several large keys and gathered up all our extra keys for this simple counting activity.

Kite pattern
And since our week is all about the beach, I thought this kite pattern would fit perfectly!!  This is from letter K over at COAH!

Kicking "K"
I love to find ways to make learning interactive and fun!  Since jumping over "J" was so much fun last week, I decided to do "kicking the K" this week.  The big inflatable balls are a huge hit at our house so I know Sweet Girl will love this one!

Ladybug Counting (Printable)

Thought some of you might like to have these cute ladybug counting cards.  We are using these to work on number recognition and counting.

This is how we have been using them so far!

Here, I just laid the cards out in numerical order and have Sweet Girl walk or jump on them in ascending order (1-10) and then descending order (10-1).

I also sometimes lay out just a few numbers and call out a number for her to jump on.

In this picture, Sweet Girl is counting the dots on the ladybug.

And my thought was that we could eventually get to where she put the numbers in order but she surprised me was able to do it all by herself!  Look at that concentration!!  The numbers were getting all mixed up as she was jumping on them so she stopped and put them back in order!!  I was shocked!

If you want to join in the counting fun, just click here to download the file.  Enjoy and happy counting!!
