Momma Made....Art Caddy

Anyone else have an obsession with art supplies?  I love just walking down the pens/pencils/markers section at just about any store.  Guess it reminds me of buying school supplies and going back to school after summer vacation.  Unfortunately our art supplies were starting to take over our kitchen!  So...in came the art caddy!

I used to drool over the art caddies at Pottery Barn Kids (don't think they sell them anymore) but they were WAY overpriced (like $60!!! WOW).  I looked and looked for one that I liked, but I couldn't find one....so, like any crafty momma, I decided to make my own!!

Again...like everything I do...it was SUPER simple!!

Here's what I used:
Lazy Susan (I got mine from Ikea for $10)
Paint (if you choose to paint your lazy susan)
Mini buckets
Adhesive magnets

I forgot to take "before" pictures, but first I painted my lazy susan with several coats of white gloss paint.

Then I added seven adhesive magnets to my lazy susan.  Mine had enough space to hold 6 buckets around the edge and one in the middle.

Why the magnets, you ask??????

Because....meet obssession #2!
Mini buckets!!!
Don't know why, but I love these and I buy them EVERY TIME I see new ones!  I love that Target has seasonal mini buckets but I never could figure out what to do with them!!  Since I used magnets I can just switch out the buckets whenever I want!

The magnets are also great because Sweet Girl can remove the bucket she wants, use it and then put it back.

Right now in our art caddy we have:
Washable markers
Crayons
Mini play dough
Pipe cleaners and pom poms
Colored pencils
Stickers and papers (those are in the large middle bucket...I  plan on switching those out with each new season/holiday).

And that's what we do on Saturday morning.  Dada, Sweet Girl and myself sit around our table and have an artsy-kinda morning!!

  3. Sitting here with a big grin on my face...I share both of your obsessions. Seriously, I CANNOT resist any form of metal buckets, and even have teeny tiny ones that I bought as toothpick caddies once. I think your idea is just brilliant and I am definitely going to try this. Maybe I'll use the mini-mini buckets to hold our googly eyes or buttons. Thanks SO much for stopping by Joyful Mama's Place earlier - glad you liked our felt doll's house!
